Making Your Own Protein Bars…Not A Bad Idea!

I have been to enough health and fitness conventions over the past year or so to safely say I think I have tried almost every protein bar on the market. My thoughts on these bars vary. I get that it can be convenient for those who are time pressed or in a situation where all they can eat is whatever they can shove in their pocket or hide in the sock of their pant leg ( I have seen this before, trust me!). But in general, I try to steer people away from protein bars, because in my opinion, they don’t usually digest well and have too many ingredients that most people (including myself!) can’t understand or just know we don’ t need in our bodies.

I was looking around online and I saw a few recipes for protein bars I could make at home, There were ones with nuts and dried fruits, which seem like a good idea, but I wanted something more unique. After reading a few of these, I came up with my own recipe.

As I mentioned, I am not a huge fan of powders and bars, but I happen to have this particular protein powder at home, because I like the ingredients in it and it is highly digestible for me. Feel free to try this at home or with any protein powder you might like.

HOMEMADE CHEWY PROTEIN BAR

1 scoop Vega All-In-One Nutritional Shake in Chocolate

1 tablespoon of Maranatha raw almond butter, or nut butter of your choice

1 oz. of almond milk

1 spoonful of dried blueberries, or whatever dried fruit you desire

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Then form the mixture into a protein bar shape on wax paper. Place another piece of wax paper on top of it and put it in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

The bar will be chewy, but you can stick it in a ziploc and take it with you to work or eat it straight off the plate in the morning with a side of your favorite fruit. Not a bad idea! I might try some other recipes, because this one is definitely not one you could leave in your car or anywhere warm for too long, but in the same tone, real food shouldn’t last forever in the sun or in your car for long periods of time anyhow.
